CEO Thought of the Week – Epiphanies and Oxygen Therapy

A little over 6 years ago, I left a high powered position in the technology industry to become the CEO of a small healthcare company with high growth potential. That company was ActiveForever (not small anymore!).

The healthcare niche never made much sense to me. It seemed behind the times technologically, operationally dysfunctional, and its reimbursement rules didn’t seem to give the human body’s potential to heal and stay healthy much credit. So, we decided to stay away from the world of reimbursements at all costs. We have made a deliberate decision to stay focused in on lowering costs, and sourcing feature rich, effective supplies and equipment that enable healthy, safe and productive living.

Then, one of my first days on the job, I was standing in our newly designed interactive retail showroom when a very excited customer walked in. I didn’t know much at the time, but I couldn’t resist offering to help her.

In the middle of one of my sentences, she excused herself. She snuck off into the corner alone and did something…then came back. She said, “I’m sorry, I could feel my blood pressure rising, so I had to go bring it down.” Can you imagine how excited “Ms. Au Natural” (that would be me) was when I found out she lowered her blood pressure with a small biofeedback device that just walked her through proper breathing?! She told me this little device called a Stress Eraser enabled her to get off her blood pressure meds, and off two other prescriptions she was taking!

How much do you think you’d learn about yourself if you had a “breathing specialist” following you around offering you biofeedback through every experience of your day? Breathing affects your mood, your metabolism and your ability to cope, sleep and stay alive. Aside from diet, breathing is up there on the “how to stay healthy” list.

Taking it a step farther is the quality of your air. Many people require oxygen therapy due to illnesses and disabilities (and by the way, many people don’t know that they can save trips to the doctor by keeping track of their optimum oxygen levels with their own portable pulse oximeter!), yet how would you feel if your doctor advised you to use devices such as the Tranquil Sounds Personal Oxygen Bar to heal your migraine headaches, high blood pressure, depression, anger issues, sleep disorder, fatigue issues (or hangover:). We cannot make any claims as to the medical benefits of these devices, but we’ve seen them work, we’ve gotten ample customer feedback (or we don’t carry it). Look forward to your coming New Years’ Resolutions and consider adding breathing and natural remedies into the mix.
