Alzheimer’s Caregiving and Active Halo GPS

ActiveForever-logo

Currently, about 4 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, and about 22,000 people die from Alzheimer’s disease every year. The Alzheimer’s Association estimates that 1 in 10 people over age 65 and nearly half of people over 85 have Alzheimer’s disease. The number of Americans with Alzheimer’s disease is expected to increase to 14 million by 2050.

Experts claim that six in ten people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease will become disoriented and “wander,” ending up in unfamiliar surroundings, lost, frightened and defenseless.

Wandering is a life-threatening emergency prevalent in all stages of Alzheimer’s. No caregiver, no matter how careful or tireless they may be, can ever be in all places at once.

ActiveForever had this in mind when they teamed up with the folks who developed AMBER Alert GPS. The goal was to create a product aimed specifically at providing Alzheimer’s, dementia and senior caregivers with some well-deserved peace of mind.

ActiveForever has taken the enormously successful AMBER Alert system and made it available to the adult segment. It’s called the Active Halo GPS. It’s the world’s smallest and most powerful GPS monitoring system in the world. This powerful and unobtrusive GPS tracking system has found a very special segment of the population to watch over. Often these patients have a condition such as Cortical or Sub-cortical dementia in which the brain and memory is affected. The most common disease associated with dementia is Alzheimer’s disease.

Caring For Wandering Alzheimer’s Patients

Caring for an individual with Alzheimer’s is never easy; in fact it can be a very stressful situation to a caregiver. Memory loss, dementia and wandering are some of the debilitating side effects of this disease. Studies have shown 6 in 10 people with dementia will wander. A patient wandering off, lost and confused is a situation that would cause anxiety to even the most seasoned caregiver. A patient might find themselves in an undesirable situation, lost unable to find their way home.
